Location: Vedronza/Njivica, 33010 Lusevera/Bardo (UD)
An evening excursion to Mascobardo Cave, also known as Podjama in Lusevera, near the village of Lusevera/Bardo. The name “Mascobardo” comes from the area located beneath the village, while “Pod jama” in Slovenian means “the cave under Lusevera/Bardo.”
The cave entrance is a nice semi-circular portal leading into a fairly spacious first chamber. From there, it continues as a rocky gallery following the natural layers of the limestone.
Deeper inside, a small underground stream appears along with early signs of speleothem formations, which are absent in the initial section. The cave ends at a small pool, likely acting as a siphon.
The hike is short but very interesting from a naturalistic point of view, offering a close look at a typical underground environment of the Torre Valleys.
